Student Designs to Replace the Chief Almost six years after Illinois retired the Chief Illiniwek mascot and symbol in 2007 because the NCAA ruled them hostile and abusive; a student group is holding a contest for to come up with a potential replacement. Re-Assemble Assembly Hall The Assembly Hall is ready for a face lift! Students are being asked for a $25 increase to the general student fee in the fall of 2014 to help finance the renovation. The renovation will include a number of updated amenities: additional restrooms and concession stands on all concourse levels, larger concourses, air conditioning, an indoor atrium entrance with ticket office, student only lounge and entrance, Illini fan store, Hall of Fame area, new seating, a retractable seating structure providing 2,500 square feet more open space, new video board, ribbon boards, and enhanced accessibility for all ADA patrons. VCR Alert Mannie Jackson: From Boxcar to Boardrooms This new documentary provides the backstory on Manny Jackson. Jackson rose from humble beginnings in a rain-soaked boxcar to become the first African-American captain of the University of Illinois basketball team, a member of the Harlem Globetrotters and later Chairman of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame. New Stadium Scoreboard The end zone is set to receive a new HD video display measuring 36 feet tall by 96 feet wide. It is capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays (This could be painful at times). Aside from the end zone display configuration, two LED ribbon displays will be installed on the fascia between the seating decks, one on each side of the field. These displays will each measure more 420 feet in length. Due to the uniqueness of Memorial Stadium, two additional displays will be installed - one in the Southeast corner and one in Southwest corner. Each auxiliary video display will measure approximately 10 feet tall by nearly 17 feet wide. [Link to Article]

Basketball game watches @ The Rose & Crown
The next basketball game watch is at the Rose & Crown tomorrow at 3:30 pm when the Illini take on Wisconsin. The club will meet at the Rose & Crown for all basketball games except the 2/13/13 Purdue game which begins at 9 pm.
Game day specials: $2 Miller Lite or Bud Light drafts, $4 pints of Sweetwater 420, Sam Adams & Sam Adams Seasonal, $5 Mimosa and $15 Miller Lite or Bud Light draft pitcher + wings.
